Room 512, Thursday Morning

It had struck Edward that he looked somewhat out of place here. The clothes he wore, especially. So he had gone to the bank to trade what little coin he had on him for the local tender - which was not enough, but he was trying to remain on the right side of the law instead of defaulting to a brief fascination with pickpocketing from his youth.

It had taken some haggling - they had insisted they did not haggle, but that just meant you had to haggle harder - but he had at least managed to buy a shirt... and now that it was the next morning and he had to get dressed, he was giving the shirt a decent examination. It had a hood, that much was familiar, and it was white-- but he couldn't tell what kind of fabric it was made of.

He cast it back onto the bed and contemplated his choices: look a bit silly with this odd shirt pulled over his breeches, or look a bit backward - and rather smelly, for a place like this, which was just ridiculously pristine - with his old clothes.

That this meant he was standing shirtless in front of the open door, he didn't particularly care about. It was warm in here anyway.

Isabelle certainly didn't mind the shirtlessness. You could probably tell that by the charming wolf-whistle from the doorway.

(Why was she even there? Did it matter?)

"And it's not even picnic day."

Edward flashed her a quick grin - he knew how he looked with his shirt off, thanks. "Picnic day?" he said. "There's a special time for this?"

"So I've heard," she said, leaning easily against the door frame. "I believe it's tradition that some people go shirtless at the welcome picnics. It was just Cade this last time, though."

Not that there was anything wrong with a shirtless Cade, either.

"I'll remember that for next time, then," Edward said, turning towards her. "I can simply stand here for a bit, if that's the sort of thing you prefer."

Isabelle smirked. "I should take a picture, it would last longer."

Although on second thought, maybe saying that didn't really make sense here.

"Has photography even been invented yet where you're from?"

"I haven't the faintest what you're talking about," Edward said, "So likely not."

He'd gotten used to not knowing, however, and he wasn't too proud to admit it.

"It's... kind of like portrait painting, but much, much faster?" Isabelle tried, after tilting her head and giving it a second's thought.

Edward looked a little dubious. "I'll take your word for it," he said. "I'll run into it sooner or later, I reckon."

"If I'd brought my phone, I could've showed you." And probably taken a picture. Oh well. She shrugged, then waved a hand dismissively. "Well, whatever, you'll learn somehow. My point was this shirtlessness seemed worthy of immortalizing."

"Maybe next time then," Edward replied, and lo and behold, his grin returned. "I'm tryin' to decide whether to try and look native today."

"And what does that entail, then?" Isabelle wondered with a raise of her eyebrows. "My vote's for skin, but I don't think that was what you were intending as a final result."

Edward held up the sweatshirt. "This is what it entails," he said.

Isabelle, ever the clothing snob, wrinkled her nose.

"Well, I'm sure it's comfortable."

"I like it," Karina said, leaning in his doorway. So sue her, she'd been heading out and noticed it open and had to go see who was her almost-neighbour. "That look is very you."

"Is it?" Edward asked, glancing downwards briefly with a grin. "I'll consider it recommended, then."

"Oh, definitely," Karina said, laughing. "Is there a reason you're standing about like that though? Not that I mind..."

"Considering a change in wardrobe, like," Edward said, nodding at the two shirts on the bed. "I'm having a devil of a time deciding."

He would one day be a complete peacock; he was already on the way there.

"Hmmm," she said playfully, studying his options. "I see that you're making your first foray into clothing from around here. Is that causing a crisis of... something?"

Karina didn't think 'faith' was the right word to use there, so she didn't.

"No modern pants to complete the look?"

"This is all I had coin for, unfortunately," Edward said, picking up the sweatshirt. "What do you reckon?" He held it up.

"It's a step in the right direction," Karina said, which was pretty tactful for her. "Kinda."

Still pretty tactful for her. Sorry, Edward.

"I'll take it, then," Edward said, tugging the sweatshirt over his head. "Might have to find alternate ways to make a bit of coin 'round here next."

"You could get a job," she suggested. "Most jobs are, like, one day a week around here, so it's not a huge time-suck."

"Perhaps," Edward said thoughtfully. "Don't suppose anyone needs help lugging things around... or selling them."

"I'm pretty sure there's an antique store that's hiring," she suggested, after running through the shops and eliminating things that she thought wouldn't work. "Same with the general store."

"I'll give them a look," Edward said, smoothing over his new shirt. "I've got the gift of gab, or so they tell me; that should tide them over."
